DISASTER!
After a night's revellery Nick took a
look at the rear suspension to see what
the problem was with left-handed corners.
The symptom was a horrendous metal to
metal scraping when cornering hard. It
didn't take an expert to spot the flaw.
The right rear suspension crossmember had
cracked! We were lucky it didn't go
completely on one of the mountain bends.
We'd have been over the edge. Cause? We
took the sleeping policeman 200 yards
after the start at Horsley Towers FLAT! At
least, that's the major suspect.
So, Imola today with a broken car.
Great! Our sign language and pointing
skills managed to explain the problem to
an Italian with a welder and we made it to
the track by 4pm. Only one and a half
hours left of track time but at least we
made it.
As Nick had been greedy and hogged ALL
of the driving on the first 25 hour stint,
my first drive of the car would be on the
F1 track at Imola! Excellent!! Oh, and for
those that don't know, Imola is one of
only two tracks on the F1 circuit that
runs anti-clockwise. ie mostly Left Hand
turns. So, that should test the skills of
our welder!!
Excellent Car! Great Crack but we ran
out of fuel! Lalala. Strangely, a few of
the handling problems seem to have
disappeared ;-) Also, the brakes have been
well bedded in now. What a track! Nick
can't get the grin off his face. A few
more Cannonballers now know that this is
no ordinary BMW.

Some people enjoyed themselves too
much. One guy managed to spin his Lancer
EVO on one section of the track with
little run-off. So that'll be 10k of
damage to a 68k car and an early bath
then.
Looks like another full day in the
mountains tomorrow. M2 country!
